History

The origins of the Régiment de la Chaudière can be traced back to the Canadian Militia under the French regime. At that time, the Regiment was made up of settlers who worked at the Taschereau seigneurie and in the surrounding area. The Régiment de la Chaudière has taken part in all the major campaigns of the Canadian Army and the British Army. The hallmarks of the Regiment have always been its endurance, dash and esprit de corps.

The Regiment's great day came with the Normandy invasion in the early morning hours of 6 June 1944. On that day, the Régiment de la Chaudière landed on the beaches of Bernières sur Mer and embarked on its victorious march across France into Germany, where the enemy begged for mercy. The Regiment can today thus claim the honour of having taken part in the greatest military operation in history, the Normandy landings—an honour shared by no other Quebec unit. The Régiment de la Chaudière subsequently garnered many other battle honours: Falaise, Escault, Rhénanie, Carpiquet, Faubourg de Vaucelles, Boulogne, Hochwald, Emmerich-Hoch Elten and Zutpen.
