Mission: the mission of the Infantry is to get close to the enemy and destroy them. The role of the infantry regiments is to furnish battle-ready troops for deployment. Infantry soldiers are the pillars of any fighting force. Their role is to establish contact with the enemy and destroy them. With the artillery, armour and combat engineers, the infantry forms part of the combat arms team.

History

The Régiment du Saguenay was founded at Roberval in 1900. Since then, the Regiment's members have served Canada proudly. As its mission was to defend the hydroelectric and aluminium-producing facilities in the region, and it was also responsible for training infantry soldiers, the Regiment was not deployed during World War II. The first soldier to enlist in the special Brigade formed during the Korean War came from the Régiment du Saguenay, followed by 400 others from the Regiment. The Regiment has frequently provided aid to the civil power during natural disasters or occurrences such as the fire at Chicoutimi Hospital, the landslide at St-Jean-Vianney, the Saguenay/Lac St Jean floods and, lastly, the ice storm. The Régiment du Saguenay has also, for many years, contributed to a range of United Nations peacekeeping missions by providing volunteers to reinforce units deployed all over the globe.
