History

The Sherbrooke Hussars can trace their origins as far back as 1803. Since it was established as a Militia unit in 1866, the Regiment has undergone a series of transformations, becoming an armoured regiment in 1942. Throughout its long and glorious history, the members of the Sherbrooke Hussars have represented the Eastern Townships with pride as participants in the Boer War (South Africa) and the two World Wars, as well as taking part in peacekeeping missions with the United Nations in Egypt, Cyprus, the former Yugoslavia and Haiti. As a Reserve unit, the role of the Sherbrooke Hussars is to support the Regular Force in meeting Canada's defence commitments. The Regiment also represents the Canadian Forces in the Eastern Townships region, providing valuable service to the community in such national emergencies as the ice storm crisis. The members of the Sherbrooke Hussars are held in high esteem for the quality of their training and their commitment to carry out their duty.
